PUPILS CELEBRATE BOLTON’S CULTURAL HERITAGE AT CROMPTON PLACE SHOPPING CENTRE

Pupils from St Catherine’s Academy in Bolton have been celebrating their town’s cultural heritage with a unique art display, officially unveiled Tuesday 20thSeptember at Crompton Place Shopping Centre.

As part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to engage with the local community and to raise awareness about St Catherine’s new build project – a shared learning space with Firwood Special School - students from year’s five and six were given the opportunity to illustrate a scene depicting ‘Bolton through the ages’ to adorn the shopping centre’s walls.

Crompton Place Centre Manager, Malcolm Angus, said: “We received 48 pieces of artwork, all of which were of a really high standard and from these ten were selected for the mural. These pictures were scanned and transferred onto a 16 inch banner which now hangs in the main mall of Crompton Place for all to see – I’d like to thank all the students who were involved with making this eye catching mural and I’m sure shoppers will agree with me that it looks really impressive.”

Chris Caldwell, Deputy Head of St Catherine’s Academy, said: “The pupils have thoroughly enjoyed doing the project and were keen to promote the St Catherine’s Academy and our links with Bolton and its community.”
